Dave Marston
Interim Superintendent
The Board of Education search process for a new superintendent continues to move along well. There were 27 applicants for the position. From that group, the Board selected 5 finalists to interview with the full Board on Saturday, April 13. At the end of the interviews, the Board selected two finalists to advance to second round interviews. The final two candidates are Heather Ballien and Susan Wooden. Heather is currently the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at St. Charles Community Schools. Susan is a professor of English at Alpena Community College and formally superintendent of East Jordan Public Schools from 2010-2012. Both candidates will be interviewed on separate evenings by the full Board during the week of April 22. Once the actual schedules are finalized, they will be posted on the district website. It is also planned that, prior to each interview, there will be a public forum for the staff and community to meet each candidate and participate in an informal question and answer session. The timeline, for the Board of Education to officially appoint the new superintendent, is planned for the regular meeting on Monday, May 13.
The Board of Education is continually developing, changing, and clarifying district policies. You will find a link on the website homepage to the policies under review. These policy recommendations will potentially affect freshman sports, sideline cheer, student attendance at extra curricular events, and extra curriculur competitions on school cancellation days. Please read the policy proposals and send any comments to the district e-mail accounts of the Board members or to me. You thoughts and opinions are appreciated.
Please remember that on May 7, 2013 there will be a millage renewal election for the Beaverton Rural Schools. The request is to renew the 18 mill non-homestead millage. This is a critical source of revenue for the district. A question and answer sheet about this millage renewal request is posted on the district website. Just click on the millage renewal caption on the home page to link to the questions. Thank you.
