THINGS TO DO IN PREPARING FOR COLLEGE

FRESHMAN/SOPHOMORE YEARS

Keep an eye on the bulletin board outside the Guidance Office for the latest updates

1_____Review your EDP (Careercruising.com)  Review 4 year plan, career choices, college choices, and keep track of your volunteer/community service activities.  (Remember you can change/update this information at anytime) Messages from the Counseling Office will be sent to students through careercruising as necessary.

2._____Review your transcript (are you taking the appropriate courses?)

3.   _____Look at dual enrollment to get an early start on college. You must take the MEAP as a sophomore to be eligible for dual enrollment as a junior.  (Registering for college classes starts in April-May)

4._____Start exploring colleges.  Some of the topics to consider are;

a.     Admissions process

b.    Needed entrance tests (e.g. ACT/SAT)

c.     Financial Aid/Scholarship opportunities

d.    Location of school/programs offered/cost of attendance

   5._____Start the scholarship search (e.g. fastweb.com,      Michigan.gov)

    6._____Take your course work seriously.  The first two years of high school lay the ground work for the options that will be available to you later.
