THINGS TO DO IN PREPARING FOR COLLEGE FRESHMAN/SOPHOMORE YEARS Keep an eye on the bulletin board outside the Guidance Office for the latest updates 1_____Review your EDP (Careercruising.com) Review 4 year plan, career choices, college choices, and keep track of your volunteer/community service activities. (Remember you can change/update this information at anytime) Messages from the Counseling Office will be sent to students through careercruising as necessary. 2._____Review your transcript (are you taking the appropriate courses?) 3. _____Look at dual enrollment to get an early start on college. You must take the MEAP as a sophomore to be eligible for dual enrollment as a junior. (Registering for college classes starts in April-May) 4._____Start exploring colleges. Some of the topics to consider are;
a. Admissions process b. Needed entrance tests (e.g. ACT/SAT) c. Financial Aid/Scholarship opportunities d. Location of school/programs offered/cost of attendance 5._____Start the scholarship search (e.g. fastweb.com, Michigan.gov) 6._____Take your course work seriously. The first two years of high school lay the ground work for the options that will be available to you later.
