THINGS TO DO IN PREPARING FOR COLLEGE JUNIOR YEAR Keep an eye on the bulletin board outside the Guidance Office for the latest updates 1. _____Know your Social Security Number (in most cases this is how you are identified at the college level) 2. _____Start preparing for the ACT/SAT (Practice makes perfect). 3. _____Review your EDP (Careercruising.com) Review 4 year plan, career choices, college choices, and keep track of your volunteer/community service activities. (Remember you can change/update this information at anytime) Messages from the Counseling Office will be sent to students through careercruising as necessary. 4. _____Review your transcript (are you taking the appropriate courses?) 5. _____Take the PSAT/National Merit Test (given in October). Needed for the National Merit Scholarship Award and good practice for the SAT/ACT. (Limited to 20 students) 6. _____Look at dual enrollment to get an early start on college. (Late October for 2nd semester courses) 7. _____Obtain information from schools of interest · Admissions process/deadlines · Needed entrance tests (e.g. ACT/SAT) · Financial Aid/Scholarship opportunities/deadlines · Attend college nights/visit with reps. as they come to BHS 8. _____Take you classes seriously this is your most important year of high school. 9. _____Register for the ACT **(April-June) (register in Feb.-April) **You may need to take the SAT in place of the ACT depending of where you want to attend college. |
