THINGS TO DO IN PREPARING FOR COLLEGE

SENIOR YEAR

Keep an eye on the bulletin board outside the Guidance Office for the latest updates

1._____Review your EDP (Careercruising.com)  Review your career choices, college choices and keep track of your volunteer/community service activities.  Remember you can change/update this information at anytime.  Messages from the Counseling Office will be sent to students through careercruising as necessary.

2.   _____Look at dual enrollment to get an early start on college. (Late October for 2nd semester courses)

3. _____Talk to college reps. as they visit BHS during the Fall. (September-November)

4. _____Go to area College Nights.  (September-October)

5. _____Visit colleges (Seniors have 2 days to use anytime during the year).

    6. _____Retake the ACT/SAT if needed. (Oct.-Dec. are the last chances.    Registration is due at least a month prior).

  7._____Finalize school(s) of interest and apply. (September – March).  You should familiarize yourself with each schools;

a.     Admissions process/deadlines

b.    Needed entrance tests (e.g. ACT/SAT)

c.     Financial Aid/Scholarship opportunities/deadlines

d.    Attend college nights/visit with reps. as they come to BHS

  8.____Start the scholarship/grant money search (e.g.   www.fastweb.com, and the college(s) of interest.  Local scholarship applications will be available in March/April. (Start any time in high school)

  9._____File the FAFSA financial aid form after Jan. 1, 2006  (deadline March 1, 2006).

10._____Make your final decision.
