MICHIGAN COLLEGE ADMISSIONS STANDARDS REQUIREMENTS

As of fall, 2001, The President’s Council of State Universities of Michigan, the board that represents all public universities in the state, listed the following requirements in their admission standards:

English                                  4 years (strongly recommended)

Mathematics                          4 years (strongly recommended)

Biological/Physical Science     4 years (preferred, 3 yrs recom.)

Social Sciences                      4 years (preferred, 3 yrs recom.)

Foreign Languages                  3 years (strongly recommended)

Fine/Performing Arts               2 years (recommended)

The universities recognize that, for a variety of reasons, some students may not be able to complete all of the requirements.  In such circumstances, students may still be considered for admission and, therefore, are encouraged to apply to the university of their choice.  In all instances, each university has final authority for admissions decisions, based on the level of achievement required and other indicators of potential for academic success.

COOPERATIVE EDUCATION

Cooperative Education (Co-op) is a method of instruction where students receive integrated instruction in the classroom and during a part-time job through written cooperative agreements between the school and employers.  The two experiences must be planned and supervised by the school and employers so that the whole contributes to the student’s commitment to education and work performance excellence.  Only seniors are eligible for the co-op program.
