We are the National Honor Society from Beaverton High School. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our organization and the process required to be inducted into our organization. The Virginia Ross Chapter of the National Honor Society has been in existence for many years. We are strictly a service organization. Our goal is to volunteer our time through the organization of projects that will benefit our school and community. Some of our projects have included raising money to support a family at Christmas by sponsoring a change drive in the Middle School. We raised money for the Ronald McDonald House by sponsoring a pop tab drive in the Elementary School. We collected various gifts to deliver to the residents at the Gladwin Pines Nursing Home. We have sponsored Blood Drives here at the High School. These are just a few of the things we do. We hold inductions every year. The process will begin in October for seniors and February for sophomores and juniors. If you are a sophomore, junior or senior and has a 3.3 or higher grade point average, you will receive notification that you are eligible and you will be invited to a general meeting. At that meeting we will present the purpose of our organization and we will go through the process. Each eligible individual will receive a student information packet. In this packet you must include all volunteer opportunities in which you have participated and you will include any leadership positions held. You will also be required to submit two letters of recommendation. Once the form has been returned with the two letters of recommendation, each individual will be evaluated by the staff based on his/her character in school. The final step will be an evaluation of each student packet by the faculty council. The council consists of 5 members. They will discuss each of the four pillars of the National Honor Society; scholarship, leadership, character and service. If the committee agrees that the you have met all four pillars, you will receive a letter in the mail inviting them to be a part of our organization. If you are not inducted a staff member will meet with them to suggest ways to meet the criteria for the next year. If you are interested in being part of NHS, we suggest that you begin gathering information on your volunteer efforts as this is an area where many students are held for consideration the following year. Be active in your high school, show leadership in the classroom, and be a positive role model. These are all ways that will help you with the evaluation process. Students will be notified in either October or March as to their status and induction will take place in mid April. If you have any further questions, you may direct them to Miss Haskin by phone, 989-246-3010 or e-mail, khaskin@brs.cgresd.net Good luck to all of you! |
