Block Letter Project

Objective:  Students will compose a block-style letter to a student in another state.

Students will draw a name of a state out of a hat.  They will then proceed to http://www.directoryofschools.com/ and click on U.S. High School Directory on the left side of the screen.  They will then click on the state that they drew out of the hat.  Students will then have a listing of several schools in that state that have websites.  Students will choose a school and explore their website to determine if that school has a business education program.  If the the school has a business program, the student will need the name of the teacher and school address.  If there is no business program, the student will need to find another school.  The students wil then compose a letter to a business student at the school.  It is hoped that students will receive responses to their letters. 

The letter should consist of the following:

• Purpose of writing the letter
• Description of Beaverton
• Description of BHS
• Description of themselves (no personal information)
• Students will also prepare an envelope

Letter Requirements:

• Minimum three paragraphs
• Minimum three sentences per paragraph
• No longer than one page
• Stamped, addressed envelope
