2006-2007 This year we will focus on the study of life (Biology.) We will do an in depth study of the 5 major kingdoms of life: Animals, Plants, Fungi, Protists, and Bacteria. I will add some pics below throughout the school year. 2005-2006 Recently we began a unit on flight. Students were given credit for attending Aviation Day at the Gladwin Airport. Several students rode in the airplanes and were allowed to steer. See pics below. My granddaughter liked watching the airplanes, too. In class we learned that the 4 main components of flight are: lift, drag, weight, and thrust. We are creating gliders and having a fly-off to compare the height and distances that can be achieved due to the design of the object being flown. Thanks to Andy, we found a really cool movie related to flight. It is an action thriller, but we learned a lot about aircraft design. If you go to the link below you can learn about the E474. http://flightplan.movies.go.com/index_main.html Plants are a part of our lives: Each student has adopted a plant to care for. They must ensure that their adoptee has food, water, shelter, and space in the proper arrangement. If the plant is healthy at the end of the school year, students will have the option of bringing their adoptee home with them to live.
Josh, John, and Anthony adopted this Snake plant. The Poinsettia has been adopted by the dynamic trio, also. The Cacti were just recently adopted by them.
We are looking at how spacing affects germination rates. The picture below is of a laboratory investigation that we participated in. |
